After enabling this feature of WhatsApp, users will get the facility to protect their chat history and media backup from any kind of unauthorized access.
Whatsapp Chat
Most of us users keep backup of our WhatsApp chats but these chat backups are not end-to-end encrypted. In such a situation, the fear of their leak increases. That’s why WhatsApp has introduced a feature in which chap backups can also be encrypted. If we talk about now, we get end-to-end encryption facility only in WhatsApp app for chat. But now the company is also making it available for backup.
According to the report of WABetaInfo, it has been made available in the latest WhatsApp beta update. WhatsApp has introduced WhatsApp Beta for version 2.21.15.5 of WhatsApp, which provides end-to-end encrypted backups. Once this feature is enabled, users will get the facility to protect their chat history and media backup from any kind of unauthorized access.
How Encryption Works
Users will have to select a password which will be used to encrypt future backups. This password will be needed when users back it up. This password can contain numeric digits and lowercase letters between ‘a’ and ‘f’.
However, there will also be a caveat with this feature. If a user forgets the password or loses the 64 digit recovery key, it will be locked forever. In this case, even WhatsApp will not be able to help anyone. According to the report of WABetaInfo, these passwords will be private and will not be shared with WhatsApp, Facebook, Google or Apple.
Let us tell you that this feature is currently available only for WhatsApp Beta Android users. Users who want to use this feature can join the beta test group or they will have to wait longer to use it.
Multi device support feature also released
Let us tell you that apart from this feature, WhatsApp has also recently rolled out the multi-device support feature. This feature has also been introduced for beta users of WhatsApp. Under this feature, users will be able to use WhatsApp on different devices even if there is no internet in the main device.
