Bharti Airtel and Vodafone had proposed to test using the technology of Chinese Huawei Company, but they later refused.
5g Network
The Department of Telecommunications has approved the 5G test on Tuesday, although Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE were not given a chance to participate in it. The Department of Telecommunications has approved the trials of companies like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and MTNL. These companies will not use the technology of any Chinese company.
Telecom Impact Secretary Anshu Prakash said, “This test will reduce the time difference between 5G spectrum auction and network restore. Earlier, there was a test after the auction. This time you will get the benefit of time and the telecom operators will be ready for the 5G network in advance. This will enable operators to select their vendors, technology and type of equipment. “He said,” Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited will conduct a separate test and their application will come soon. “
An official of the Department of Telecommunications said that the options given by the telecom operators have been approved by the department. Vodafone Idea’s proposal to conduct the trial in partnership with Mavenir is currently being reviewed and a decision will be taken on it. Vodafone Idea had submitted three applications for examination. He did not reply to an email sent to Huawei in this regard.
10 times better download speed than 4G
5G technology is capable of giving ten times better download speed than 4G and up to three times better in spectrum capacity as per telecom coverage.
The list of telecom gear manufacturers approved by the Department of Telecommunications for 5G testing includes indigenously developed technologies of Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, C-Dot and Reliance Jio. This means that Chinese companies will not be part of the 5G trials.
The Department said in a statement, “DoT has given permission to companies providing telecom service to test the use of 5G technology. This includes Bharti Airtel, Reliance JioinfoCom Limited, Vodafone Idea India Limited and MTNL.
Airtel and Vodafone refuse to use Huawei’s technology
Earlier, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone had proposed a test using the technology of China’s Huawei company. Later he said in his application that he will not use the technology of any Chinese company in the 5G test.
“These telecom service provider companies have tied up with original equipment manufacturers and technology providers such as Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and C-Dot,” the department said. While Reliance JioinfoCom Limited will do this test using its own 5G technology. ”
This move of the Department of Telecommunications indicates that the central government can prevent Chinese companies from participating in 5G telecom services to be started in the country.
Apart from cities, 5G testing will also be done in villages.
The statement said that telecom companies have been allowed to use the experimental spectrum in different bands. This includes mid-band 3.2 GHz to 3.67 GHz, millimeter wave bands 24.25 GHz to 28.5 GHz, and sub-GHz bands to 700 GHz.
The department said, “Telecom operators will also be allowed to use their existing 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2500 MHz spectrum for conducting 5G trials. The duration of the tests is currently six months. This includes a period of 2 months for the purchase and installation of the equipment. ”
Apart from this, it has been clearly stated in the permission letter that telecom companies will have to do 5G testing in rural and semi-urban areas including urban areas so that the benefits of 5G technology can be taken not only in cities but across the country.
