Currently, when you archive an individual or group chat in WhatsApp, it gets hidden in the Archive section. So this chat does not appear on the top of the messaging app. However, when a new message arrives, Archived Chat automatically comes to the top of the screen, which is very annoying. This will not happen with the new feature.
On enabling the read letter feature, the chat with the new message will remain in the read letter section and users will not be notified when new messages arrive. All chats in the read letter category will be muted.

The report said that WhatsApp was developing a read letter feature that would replace Archived Chat.
