After the completion of the process on March 11, NASA has released the image taken from the telescope. It has featured a spectacular sparkling dot in the center of the image. NASA has said that this observatory is capable of successfully collecting light from distant objects and transmitting it to its instruments.
In a statement, NASA said that all optical parameters of James Webb are working normally. However, the process of setting up this telescope is not yet complete. Engineers will complete the rest of the phases in the next 6 weeks. It is expected that by the summer the setup of James Webb will be completed and this $10 billion (about Rs 75,890 crore) observatory will be able to work at its full strength.
Ritva Keski-Kuha, deputy optical telescope element manager for the James Webb Space Telescope at NASA, said that we have focused the telescope perfectly on a star. Its performance is beating its features.
The 21-foot and 4-inch primary mirror of the James Webb Telescope was too large to fit inside a rocket. It has 18 hexagonal segments packed into the rocket. When the system reached its orbit, work began to connect these mirror segments and the rest of the equipment. All mirror segments were placed in their place to form a single mirror surface. This is now being used to capture starlight.
The James Webb Telescope is the largest telescope ever sent into space. It was launched on Christmas last year. The process of connecting its mirrors started in February. Initially the images captured by it were blurry, but as the work of adding mirrors progressed, the images started getting better. In late February, all 18 mirror segments started capturing a single star. Its results are now visible.
