Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp services down for several hours around the world
Internet experts say that all Facebook services were down due to Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). It is a routing protocol of the Internet.
Facebook (Facebook) , its messaging platform WhatsApp (Whatsapp) and photo-sharing app Instagram (Instagram) After being down for seven hours, it has started working once again. People all over the world have been affected due to the server down. Facebook said late Monday that it was working to restore access to their services and was “happy to report that they are now back online.”
The company apologized for the inconvenience caused to people due to the service shutdown of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and thanked its users for waiting so long for the app to come back. However, it has not yet been told what could be the reason for this outage. DownDetector, which monitors Internet issues, said that with more than 10.6 million reports worldwide, Facebook’s downfall was the biggest outage ever.
Shares fall 4.9%
Facebook’s shares fell 4.9 per cent on Monday following the service shutdown, their biggest daily decline since last November. According to Standard Media Index, a magazine measurement firm, Facebook lost approximately $545,000 per hour in US advertising revenue during the outage. Some of Facebook’s internal applications, including the company’s own email system, have also been affected.
New York Times tech reporter Sheera Franklin has said that she has spoken to a person working with Facebook. He told that Facebook employees were not able to enter the building since morning because their badges were not working through which they used to enter the building.
Some Internet experts say that all Facebook services were down due to Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). It is a routing protocol of the Internet. The message on Facebook’s webpage described an error in the Domain Name System (DNS), which allows web addresses to lead users to their destinations.
What is DNS!
DNS can be called the Internet backbone. When we open a website in any computer, DNS tells your browser what is the IP of any website. Every website has an IP. In the case of Twitter or Facebook, DNS tells your browser what is the IP of Twitter and Facebook. In such a situation, if the record of Facebook and Twitter is erased from the DNS database, then you and your computer will not be able to know what Facebook and Twitter are and will not be able to access them.
