Tech giant Apple is facing a class-action lawsuit claiming that the M1 MacBook models shipped with a hidden defect, causing their screen to break easily. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, after law firm Migliacio & Rathod investigated an easily broken MacBook screen.
According to an AppleInsider report, the lawsuit accuses Apple of violating the Separation Warranty, Consumer Protection and False Advertising Laws. According to the complaint, users have reported the MacBook display to be unclear with dead spots. It was also claimed that the screen of the M1 MacBook models has also been cracked. It said, these problems often develop when the class laptop is turned off.
Error when closing or opening MacBook
Many class laptop owners have reported that they have noticed a cracking or malfunction for the first time when turning off or opening their device. Others report that their display gets cracked while changing the viewing angle of the screen. A good customer would not expect this kind of activity to damage his device, let alone an unclean display, a screen crack that impairs its performance.
Apple accused of hiding flaws through marketing
The report states that the lawsuit claims that Apple fraudulently carried out marketing methods to hide this shortcoming. For example, Apple has talked about the durability of the notebook while hiding the flaw from the point of view of the customers. Whereas reports of easily cracked screens among M1 MacBook owners first started coming to the fore in 2021.
Problem with MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models
Several users had reported screen malfunctions occurring randomly for no apparent reason. It is not clear how widespread the issue is, although users have reported it on 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models. In at least one case, a customer said they had been advised by Apple experts that the defect—contact point crack—won’t fall within Apple’s standard warranty, according to the report.
