Among the 36 VPs of Google, there are many who were not happy with the work of Sundar Pichai. On the other hand, the VPs who had left Google for other companies have praised Sundar.
Google chief executive Sundar Pichai is reportedly facing a management challenge as a section of his senior leadership has turned turbulent. The New York Times reported on Monday that current and former senior leaders had criticized the firm’s increasingly risk-averse style, and more than 30 vice presidents had stepped down in a year. The Times said that this layer of leadership thought the firm had become too bureaucratic.
David Baker, a former director of engineering at the company for 16 years, told The Times, “Google’s lack of courage to deal with the problem of diversity ultimately killed my passion for the job.” “The more financially secure Google has become, the more risk it has avoided.” Pichai took over the reins from Google co-founder Larry Page in 2015.
The New York Times traced it to LinkedIn
The Times said it analyzed LinkedIn profile updates and found that 36 Google VPs had left the company in the past 12 months, roughly one-tenth of such executives at the company. In a 2018 email, Pichai hired several VPs. Behind this, he had argued that, if the company is facing difficulty in moving forward, then there is no proper coordination in taking technical decisions.
Let us tell you that there were many VPs who praised Sundar. It also mentions the name of Caesar Sengupta, who was the VP of Google for 15 years. There are other names in the list like Aparna Chennapragada, who left Google in April for trading app Robinhood. Both of them praised Pichai’s decision.
In the month of January, Google’s parent company Alphabet announced that it was going to shut down Loon forever. Broadband can be made more accessible with the help of Loon. At the same time, the company closed other projects during this period. Google and its affiliates have also grown significantly. At the end of Pichai’s first year as CEO, Alphabet had 72,053 full-time employees. At the end of 2020, this number had increased to 135,301.
