Apple vs Samsung: Apple’s sales have increased due to the iPhone 12 series. Now a report by Gartner has revealed that the new series of Apple has increased the popularity of the iPhone. According to a Gartner report, Apple surpassed Samsung in terms of shipping on the iPhone 12 series and became the world’s top smartphone brand in December 2020, the last quarter of 2020. The special thing is that Apple has lagged Samsung after almost five years. Earlier, Apple surpassed Samsung in 2016.
According to the report, in December 2020, Apple shipped 8 million iPhones, which was much more than Samsung. Apart from this, Apple’s sales grew 14.9 percent on an annual basis while Samsung’s sales fell by 11.8 percent. This is the case when Apple’s limited series is available compared to Samsung, which indicates that Apple has achieved this feat due to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11. According to the report, Apple’s growth in the fourth quarter of the year 2020 was in double digits due to the launch of 5G iPhone 12.
Apple and Xiaomi sales growth in 2020
If we talk about the whole year 2020, Samsung remained the market leader in terms of smartphone sales. Although it faced stiff competition from budget and mid-range handsets offered by brands such as Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo, Samsung remained the market leader in 2020 last year. Despite being the market leader, Samsung’s sales fell 14.6 percent year-on-year while Apple’s sales grew 3.3 percent year-on-year in 2020. In the top 5, only Apple and Xiaomi sales grew on an annual basis.
5G and camera increase smartphone sales
According to a Gartner report, the smartphone market declined by 5.4 per cent in terms of sales in the quarter ending in December 2020 and 12.5 per cent in 2020, for the whole year. Anshul Gupta, Senior Research Director, Garner, says that the popularity of lower-to-mid-tier phones has led to a further decline in the market. Apart from this, many users bought new smartphones due to 5G smartphones and pro-camera upgrades.
