According to Instagram’s App Store listing on iOS, Instagram is preparing to launch a new subscription feature – through which creators and influencers can make money. The development comes after the head of Instagram, Adam Mossier, said earlier this year that the company was looking for membership.
According to a report in TechCrunch, a new “Instagram membership” category can be seen under the “In-App Shopping” section for the Instagram App Store listing. The Instagram subscription costs Rs 89 per month, though keep in mind that this may not be the final price when the service starts or goes live. The new subscription option is visible with an Instagram badge that users can buy to gift creators during live sessions.
The Instagram subscription is expected to be like Twitter Blue where fans can get access to exclusive content. Sensor Tower confirms that the first “Instagram membership” in-app shopping was added to the US App Store listing on November 1 at a price tag of $4.99. In-app purchases for $0.99 were added a few days later, on November 3.
Instagram is testing membership button
In addition, reverse engineer and tipster Alessandro Paluzzi, through a series of tweets, notified that Instagram is testing a membership button that will appear on a maker’s profile. This means fans can subscribe and get access to exclusive content like stories and live videos.
Whenever you DM (Direct Message) creators or comment on their posts, a special member badge will also appear next to your username. This badge is expected to give priority to interactions with the creator.
It is worth noting that as per a TechCrunch report, makers will be able to monitor their estimated earnings, active members and end memberships. Instagram will also allow creators to customize their subscription name and price, and fans can cancel whenever they want.
Meanwhile, a growing number of social media companies such as TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, YouTube and Twitter have also launched their own creator subscription platforms.
