Microsoft’s decision comes after Facebook asked all US employees to wear masks in offices and the company has asked to get the vaccine when employees return to offices.
It seems that the policy of returning to work for employees in technology majors is very clear, under which only those who have been vaccinated against Coivd-19 will be allowed to return to the office. Microsoft has become the latest tech giant to adopt this approach for its workforce. Amidst the rise in the cases of COVID in the US, Microsoft has told its employees and sellers that from next month it will be mandatory for them to show a certificate of vaccination before entering any office in the US.
According to the Verge report, the tech giant has extended the date of reopening of its entire office from September to October 4, 2021. “Starting September, we will also require certificates of vaccination for all employees, sellers and any guests entering Microsoft’s buildings in the US, and an accommodation process for employees,” the company said in a statement. It also said, “We continue to review the situation on a local basis in each area, country, state. Where we operate and will adjust the dates and policy properly as required.”
Microsoft’s decision comes after Facebook asked all US employees to wear masks in offices and the company has asked to get the vaccine when employees return to offices. Facebook said last week that it would require its US employees to vaccinate against COVID-19 when it returned to office.
Despite rising vaccination rates amid concerns over the fast-spreading delta variant, there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases in the US. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that about 72,000 new cases are being reported every day. Twitter has closed offices in the US and Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said employees would need to be vaccinated before the company could return to office at the end of the year. Apple has also now asked customers and employees in more than 270 of its US retail stores to wear masks, even if they have been vaccinated.
