What is Starlink?
A unique project of SpaceX, another company of Tesla company owner Elon Musk, has been started to provide internet through Starlink satellite. Musk has also successfully started this project in many cities. Now it appears that by 2022, Musk is planning to launch it in India as well. In the Starlink project, the company can provide internet service to any corner of the world through satellite. Starlink is a satellite internet network. This network will consist of thousands of small satellites, which will be connected to transceivers built on the ground. As of May 2019, SpaceX had placed a total of 60 operational satellites in lower orbit and the company plans to increase this figure to 42,000 satellites by mid-2027. As of January, SpaceX had launched more than 1,000 Starlink high-speed Internet satellites, according to CNBC.
Countries with Starlink
According to some online reports, Starlink users in the US, Australia and Mexico can get a connection kit for $499 (approximately Rs.36,400). Apart from this, they have to pay a rental of $ 99 per month. Currently, pre-orders are available in India for $99, but it may happen that customers will have to pay a separate price for the kit. A CNBC report says that customers in the UK have to pay £89 (approximately Rs 9,000) per month and £439 (approximately Rs 44,600) for the kit initially when taking a connection. This kit includes the StarLink as well as the Wi-Fi router, power supply, cable, and mounting tripod.
Will Starlink succeed in India?
If you look at other countries, Starlink is definitely not a cheap deal. It may happen that in India too, users will have to shell out a huge amount for the kit. For the time being, it remains to be seen how affordable Elon Musk keeps this service to revolutionize the broadband industry in India. Especially when many other ISPs (Internet Service Providers) including Reliance Jio, Airtel, BSNL in the country are providing high-speed broadband internet at very affordable prices. However, Starlink has the ability to provide high-speed internet even in remote areas as compared to regular broadband and this is its biggest USP. Internet through satellite can be reached even in remote areas where cable broadband is not possible to reach. However, it is also important to note that the population living in such areas will not show much interest in using expensive internet. The success of Starlink in India will totally depend on its price.<!–
