When asked about the challenges associated with using electric vehicles, he said, “The issue is being discussed (in the matter of charging e-vehicle batteries). ARAI has been instructed to work on it. ARAI has developed a prototype of a fast charger and the product is expected to be ready by December 2022 next year.”
The Union Minister also informed that ARAI has been asked to complete the project by October 2022, so that it can be made available to the customers by December. Fast chargers will solve the problem of charging infrastructure and increase the demand for battery operated vehicles. The minister also said that research is still going on. Only after the research is completed, it can be said that in how much time the electric two-wheeler, three-wheeler and four-wheeler can be charged with this charger.
He also informed that his ministry is also in talks with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to install EV chargers at 22,000 petrol pumps across the country. Charging stations will be set up at a distance of 25 km on highways and 3 km in cities. Transport ministers of various states, people of state governments and industry officials also participated in this roundtable.
