It’s been a few years since Google first hinted at a foldable Pixel phone. Now that some of its development has been made public, it is expected that Google will launch the device at the end of 2021. This information has been given by David Naranjo, Senior Director, Display Supply Chain Consultants. A recent tweet by Naranjo shares a list of devices that are available or rumored to use LTPO OLED panels from SDC. These also include the name of Google Pixel Fold.
According to Naranjo’s tweet, LTPO OLED display can be used on Google’s Pixel Fold. This is not the first time that the launch timeline of the Pixel Fold has been indicated. According to GSM Arena, with Google preparing to launch the Pixel 6 series, the tech giant may also announce the upcoming Pixel Fold in the fourth quarter of this year. The report states that Google is expected to launch its Pixel 6 series on October 19.
Along with suggestions for hardware development, Google is known to actively push for more customized Android for foldable devices. However, it started as a medium by other OEMs to enable the platform for foldable smartphones.
What will be special in Pixel 6 Pro
Already got an early look at the design and specs of both but the Pixel Fold was not mentioned. A recent report suggests that the Pixel 6 Pro will feature a display panel with a resolution of 1,440 x 3,120 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The smartphone is also expected to come pre-installed with the Digital Car Key application. Under the hood, the smartphone will come with a Tensor chipset, which will be paired with Mali-G78 GPU, coupled with 12GB RAM + 512GB internal storage.
Coming to the optics, the smartphone will come with a triple rear camera setup consisting of 50 MP Samsung GN1 primary sensor, 12 MP Sony IM X386 ultra-wide lens and 48 MP Sony IM X586 telephoto snapper with 4X optical zoom support. There will be a 12MP Sony IM X663 front-facing camera for selfie and video calling.
Note that these are only hinted at by Google on the foldable smartphone and nothing has been officially confirmed by the company yet. However, there are strong indications that we may see a Pixel Fold device soon, if not in 2021, then early next year.
