Flipkart has brought this feature to make shopping fun
Domestic e-commerce marketplace Flipkart on Wednesday introduced an immersive e-commerce experience with an Augmented Reality (AR) enabled Flipkart camera on the Flipkart app. This new offering will enable buyers to visualize what a product will actually look like before making a purchase. The company said that the Flipkart Camera aims to make the online experience more engaging and rewarding for customers and help them make informed decisions.
Jayandran Venugopal, Chief Product and Technology Officer, Flipkart, said in a statement, “With the Flipkart Camera feature, we aim to take the experience a notch higher by offering in-house demonstrations of products from the comfort of the consumer’s living room. It helps in taking an informed decision before buying them.
Venugopal said, this technology has far-reaching applications and can enhance the customer experience manifold, as well as help customers find the right product.
In categories such as furniture, luggage and large appliances, where customers need to estimate the size and fit or not fit of a product and understand its aesthetics before making a purchase decision, customers can view products using Flipkart Camera. One can get visual (with 3D) experience.
Another important category, where this capability will build customer confidence and eliminate guesswork, is the beauty category, which gives customers a chance to try out products before making a decision. Along with the perception of rapid adoption of smartphones, the use of Augmented Reality has also been encouraged among the customers.
According to a Gartner report, Gen Z and millennials are increasing the demand for AR and virtual reality (VR) features, with 30 percent of the sample space looking to incorporate more AR/VR capabilities into their shopping experience.
