Facebook on Thursday postponed the return of employees to the office until early next year due to rising cases of the delta variant of the corona virus. The largest social network had set a new target in January to bring employees back to their campuses but has now promised to give them notices before calling them to office.
Responding to the AFP investigation, a Facebook spokesperson said, “The company wants to recall employees to the office, but the Corona cases affect this approach. We continue to monitor the situation and work with experts to ensure that our return to office plans make everyone’s safety a priority.”
The spokesperson said, for now, the data shows an increasing number of COVID cases based on the delta variant.
Vaccination required to come to office
At the same time, Google, Facebook and Microsoft have said that it will be mandatory for employees returning to the office to get the vaccine against COVID-19. People will also be required to wear masks in Facebook offices, even if they have been vaccinated.
At Microsoft, the first date to fully reopen US facilities will be October 4, according to the Washington state-based computing giant. E-commerce giant Amazon confirmed that it is postponing the return of employees to its corporate offices till January next year instead of September as originally expected. Google this month closed its campus to unvaccinated employees and extended its global work from home option until October 18. Critics of the union and mandate have spoken out against necessary vaccinations, citing individual liberty arguments.
