Social media companies have finally appointed Grievance Officers after the ongoing jibe with the central government over the new digital rules. In the new rules, the central government had said that it is mandatory for Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and other similar companies serving in India to appoint officers for redressal of complaints.
There is a provision for redressal of complaints of users under the IT Act 2000 in the country. Many e-commerce, telecom and UPI companies including social media companies have also appointed Grievance Officers. According to the new IT rules, companies are required to publicly disclose the complete details of the Grievance Officer, contact number, address, complaint process etc. to their users.
Content to be removed within 24 to 36 hours
It is often seen that fake news becomes viral on social media. Many fake news has also become a cause of violence. There is more danger than the content spread about communal frenzy. Under the new rules, companies will have to confirm within 24 hours and resolve within 15 days after users complain about any objectionable content. If the objection of the users is valid, then it will have to be removed from the platform within 36 hours. Nudity and porno content must be removed within 24 hours.
Where and how to complain on Twitter?
To complain about a post on Twitter, you can visit legalrequests.twitter.com/forms/landing_disclaimer. Here you have to register the complaint by entering your details. You can mail your grievance at [email protected]. Along with this, you can also post your complaint through post.

How to make complaint on WhatsApp?
According to the information given in the WhatsApp blog, users can also make complaints related to WhatsApp from their mobile.
