E-commerce company Flipkart has started the facility of QR code based payment at the time of delivery for its customers, in which customers will be able to pay without touching anyone. The company said in a statement that customers paying cash on delivery of goods can now make digital payments for the same after scanning the QR code linked to their purchase at the time of delivery. They can do this through any UPI app.
The company said that this facility of payment being contactless will not only ensure the safety of the customers at this time of pandemic but will also remove the trust deficit among those customers who have any doubts regarding such payment. The company further said that this new innovation will make things easier for the customers as well as help in connecting 200 million users to this platform.
Shopping and payment will be done sitting at home
Flipkart Head (Financial Technology & Payments Group) Ranjit Boyanapalli said the move will meet the changing needs of customers. While this pandemic has shifted customers towards online shopping, there is still a lack of trust among the customers. In such a situation, through ‘Pay-On-Delivery’ technology, Flipkart wants to ensure that customers can get their face-to-face sitting at home and make payments at the same time.
100% jump in UPI payments
Flipkart said that the number of UPI-based payments has seen a steady increase over the years, with offline person-to-merchant transactions accounting for 42.5 per cent of all UPI transactions in December 2020. Citing data from NPCI, the company said that this phase of the pandemic has led to a significant increase in UPI payments. 2.64 billion transactions were recorded in April 2021, which is 100 percent more than the previous year.
