An official said that on June 11, a 78-year-old resident of Udaipur had given a complaint of cyber fraud of Rs 6.50 lakh on the CyberSafe app run by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The F2P caller was working from Jharkhand. During investigation, it emerged that the money was directly credited to three SBI cards, which were used to buy 33 China-made Xiaomi Poco M3 mobile phones from Flipkart. Within minutes, information was received about the address at which these phones were called in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh and the Balaghat Superintendent of Police was informed about this.
Another official said that the Madhya Pradesh Police was most effective in nabbing the mastermind and all 33 new mobile phones besides some other phones were also recovered from him. Jharkhand Police arrested F2P caller. The F2P gang had bought these phones for about Rs 10000 per phone and used to sell them in the black market with a discount of five to 10 percent.
F2P gangs have hundreds of members who conduct various stages of a transaction including OTP fraud, credit card fraud, e-commerce fraud, fake ID, fake mobile number, fake address, black marketing, tax evasion, money laundering and theft. Including buying and selling of goods. The accused are also being questioned as to why they preferred only China-made phones, especially those made by Xiaomi.
