The telecom department has released new guidelines for converting numbers from prepaid to postpaid and postpaid to prepaid via OTP.
Prepaid To Postpaid
If you are a prepaid customer and want to convert your number to postpaid, then there is good news for you. Now you will be able to convert any of your prepaid numbers to postpaid through just one OTP and for this you will not need KYC again. The Department of Telecommunication has approved this matter.
The Department of Telecommunications has approved this at the request of COAI. Let us know that on 9 April 2020, COAI had written to the Department of Telecommunication seeking approval to convert customers from prepaid to postpaid and postpaid to prepaid. With this, it said that instead of adopting the fresh KYC (Know Your Customer) process, OTP based authentication should be used.
Now approving this, the Department of Telecommunication has said that when converting from prepaid to postpaid or postpaid to prepaid, the mobile connection remains the same and the ownership also does not change. The SIM remains in the right of the customer and only the difference in the way the bill is made. OTP based authentication has been implemented in all sectors, in such a situation, it is most important to provide contactless service at this time so that customers can also get convenience and business does not face any kind of problem. From prepaid to postpaid or postpaid, the company can take the proof of prepaid from the said methods. This process can be evaluated and implemented later.
This step has to be followed to convert from OTP to prepaid to postpaid
If a subscriber wants to convert his number from prepaid to postpaid or postpaid to prepaid, he has to send a request to the company. This request can be sent by SMS, IVRS or by an Authorized App. After receiving the request, a message will be sent to the subscriber’s mobile number that he has requested to convert his mobile number to prepaid or postpaid. This message will have a unique transaction ID and a one-time password (OTP) which will expire in 10 minutes. Using this, users will be able to convert their number.
