While most companies are retrenching amidst rising cases of Corona epidemic, Flipkart has continued to hire people. Flipkart said on Tuesday that it has hired 23,000 people in its supply chain, including delivery officers, in the last three months. Flipkart wants to strengthen the supply chain to deliver its products faster in the e-commerce marketplace.
The company said in a statement that the hiring was done keeping in mind the increasing demand for e-commerce services across the country, as people continue to stay indoors to fight the epidemic, which has increased the supply chain. Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain at Flipkart said, “To ensure their safety during these testing times, all new employees will be covered with our healthcare and wellness initiative.”
Flipkart is increasing the basic structure of the supply chain
The company is also running its training programs to directly engage in various aspects of the supply chain, ranging from security rules and protocols in its warehouses to raising awareness of COVID security practices. Flipkart this month announced the promotion of the basic structure of its grocery supply chain to provide its customers safe and seamless access to ordering daily essentials via fast and contact les doorstep delivery.
73,000 orders will be fulfilled every day
As part of the plan, Flipkart will add more than 8 lakh square feet of space through five new supply centers in the next three months. With this additional basic structure, the market will facilitate online grocery shopping for more users in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Coimbatore and Hyderabad. This will help Flipkart to fulfill more than 73,000 grocery orders per day.
Last month, the e-commerce company increased the capacity of grocery supply centers in Lucknow, Pune, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Patna. It currently places around 64,000 orders a day.
