In the recent scam running on WhatsApp, cybercriminals are pretending to be the family members of the victims. Suffolk Trading Standards, a UK-based government organization, has warned WhatsApp users that fraudsters pretending to be one of their family members are targeting them through fake messages.
In a recent incident, a woman from Kesingland received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number, claiming to be her daughter. The fraudster tried to convince the mother that she fell in the toilet and this was her new contact number. The con-person requested money from the mother as she had to pay the bill and could not access her account. Luckily, the mother did not get cheated and contacted her daughter in other ways.
