Airtel 5G network test trial went live on Monday in Lower Parel area of Mumbai. The 5G network was trialled by the telecom giant using Nokia’s 5G Gear at Phoenix Mall in the city. A video of the speed test of Airtel’s trial network shared shows that the company was able to get speeds of 1.2Gbps with ultra-low latency during the 5G test trial. It also managed to achieve upload speeds of close to 850Mbps.
When the 5G network trial was conducted in the Cyber Hub area of Gurgaon, Airtel surpassed its previous speed of 1Gbps. ET Telecom was the first to report this. Sources were quoted as saying that a similar trial would start soon in Kolkata. Earlier this year in January, Airtel became the first telecom network to successfully deploy 5G service through NSA (non-stand alone) network technology on a commercial network in the 1800 MHz band in Hyderabad.

Earlier this year, the Department of Telecom allowed Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) to conduct testing for use and application of 5G technology in India. TSP has tied up with original device makers and technology providers Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and C-DOT. The testing period, at present, is for 6 months, which includes a time period of 2 months for the purchase and installation of equipment.
5G spectrum will be auctioned soon in India
