In the Corona epidemic, there were many rural areas where medicines could not reach. In such a situation, Bluedart is starting a drone service to fill this shortcoming. Earlier, Flipkart had also talked about testing for this in collaboration with the Telangana government.
Drone delivery
Drone delivery is going to start in India soon. A few days back, it was reported that Swiggy will start delivering food and medical packages using drones, while India’s leading express logistics service provider Bluedart has also been added to the list which will deliver by drones. Bluedart announced that it has formed the Blue Dart Med-Express consortium to distribute vaccines and emergency medical supplies to remote areas of India using drones.
Bluedart is a part of Medicine of Sky initiative launched by Government of Telangana, World Economic Forum, NITI Aayog and Healthnet Global. This is the same initiative that has worked with Dunzo for drone delivery as well. Ketan Kulkarni, CMO and Head, Business Development, Blue Dart said that the consortium aims to enable safe, efficient and cost-effective drone delivery flights .
With efficient systems, it can help reduce existing logistics costs, making healthcare logistics fast and efficient. We are happy to be given the rights to start operations and this is definitely the need of the hour. Mankind is witnessing the worst and Blue Dart is committed to giving back to the society in which it operates and will always be ready to take a step forward.
people’s troubles will end
With the havoc of COVID-19, people living in rural or remote parts of India struggled to get access to some of the most essential things like medicines. The COVID-19 restrictions hit the supply chain, leading to a shortage of medicines and other essentials in rural areas. Drone technology will prove to be a boon in such difficult times.
Apart from BlueDart, Swiggy and Dunzo have started testing drone delivery for food and medical packages. Swiggy has tied up with ANRA Technologies for drone delivery. Interestingly, ANRA Technologies has received final approval from the Ministry of Defense (MoD), Directorate General of Aviation (DGCA), and Ministry of Civil Aviation to start trials for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations in India.
