After getting permission from the Department of Telecommunications, the state-owned telecom company MTNL will test 5G in collaboration with C-DOT. This test will be done in Najafgarh area of Delhi.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) allotted spectrum for 5G testing to state-run telecom company MTNL with C-DOT as the technology partner. Official sources have given this information. Earlier Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea were allotted spectrum for conducting 5G testing in select cities of India in May itself.
Official sources said, “DoT has allotted spectrum to MTNL for 5G internet trial in Delhi. The company will conduct the trials in partnership with C-DOT.” The public sector telecom company will conduct 5G internet trials in Delhi’s Najafgarh area.
5G will give 10 times more speed than 4G
According to Dot, 5G technology will provide ten times higher download speeds and three times higher spectrum efficiency than 4G internet. Presently the duration of the trials is six months. This includes a time period of two months for the purchase and installation of the equipment.
Bharti Airtel has started 5G trial in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru while Jio has applied for 5G trial in Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat and Hyderabad. The company has joined hands with big companies like Nokia and Samsung for this testing.
Let us tell you that in March, Reliance Jio had acquired spectrum worth Rs 57,123 crore in 22 circles. This is a move that will enable it to provide LTE service and upgrade to 5G in future. The company had acquired spectrum in the 800 MHz, 1,800 MHz and 2,300 MHz bands at an effective cost of Rs 60.8 crore per MHz. Apart from this, the company has recently allotted extra spectrum in major circles for better connectivity and service.
