What could be more gratifying than contributing to improve the lives of those around you. Imagine being stuck in a situation where there is a lack of proper health facilities and you have to walk for miles without the assurance of seeing a doctor. It is unfortunate that this is not just a fantasy but this is the condition of most Indians in rural parts of our country.
Our today’s story revolves around a young entrepreneur who pioneered some revolutionary work in the healthcare sector using information technology.
When Vishwajeet Paul returned to Silchar after his mother’s demise, he was distracted by the state of health facilities in his district. Sensing a lack of basic facilities, non-availability of doctors, and a large vacuum in the infrastructure, he decided to do something. They found that this gap can be filled quickly by using the Internet and technology properly.
Then what, he designed an application under the banner of QuickBooks brand where you get all the information related to medical health in just one click. Not only can you book an appointment through this app, but you can also check the reviews of these doctors and can also order medicines right from home. The application also provides you the facilities to track your appointment so that you do not have to waste time waiting in queues by reaching the hospital.
With QuickBooks, people can get the results of treatment tests and advice and treatment from doctors at home, apart from connecting with the drug dealers around them. The most important thing is that people can run QuickBooks even without a smartphone. The company connects with large drug dealers or general stores in different areas under a franchise model, and these stores provide small amounts of medicines. This approach makes the app more accessible and also saves the lives of those who are financially vulnerable.
For Vishwajeet, this journey has not been as smooth as it seems. When he started in the year 2016, he could not get a single appointment from the app for eight months of the beginning. Still he did not lose patience and remained steadfast towards his goal. His hard work was successful, and in the last three months, QuickBooks added several chapters of success. The company booked over 1000 successful appointments in its first year of launch and has never looked back since.
In a conversation with Kenfolioz, Vishwajeet said that I owe my success to co-founder Jewel Sen and the rest of my team.
Not only this, under the central government’s ambitious scheme ‘Make in India’ program, QuickBooks is a registered start-up company, comprising over 1,200 doctors, operating in the Barak Valley and adjoining north-eastern states and till date Has provided health facilities to more than 3.2 lakh people. It is incubated at IIM-Calcutta, IIT-Guwahati, Assam Start Up Nest, NASSCOM, Kalinga University, Bengal Chamber of Commerce and NIT Silchar.
Seeing the foresight and impact of the company, the Government of Assam has also provided an investment amount of Rs 50 lakhs under the startup scheme. At present, Vishwajeet, which has spread its services to three states and fifteen districts, is now planning to expand it to the entire North East India. Recently he got an additional investment of Rs 1 crore. The company also works in creating models for new cities based on revenue sharing.
We have always heard that ‘misery is selfish,’ but the story of Vishwajit has proved this saying wrong. No one knew the circumstances under which he returned to Silchar, but his impressive work has made him an ideal man today. His story is truly an example for the younger generation. Instead of bypassing the existing flaws in the society, it is our responsibility to take the initiative to eliminate it and to create a better tomorrow.
