Farming is the largest employer in India, a lot of people live by farming. So far, agriculture and allied sectors such as forestry and fisheries are responsible for only 13.5% of GDP. Many people in India have changed the methods of farming, however, more change is needed. Lead this change Rajib Kumar Roy is doing.
Rajib, studying from IIT Kharagpur, was always in favour of changes in farming practices in India. Rajib of Madhubani opted for Agricultural Engineering, leaving Civil Engineering for just this reason. It was very difficult for him to convince his father for this, but he got success.
After taking his master’s degree from IIT Kharagpur, he got a job in a well-known company. But destiny had something else approved. Rajib had a sister’s wedding on the day the campus selections were held. Many of his friends were chosen but Rajib did not give up hope and applied for a job in the same company. He got a job but the salary was less than everyone.
After working in the field of post-harvesting, Rajib turned his attention to working in a greenhouse venture for nine months. Despite this, there was no increase in his salary, yet he decided to work here. He then started working in the greenhouse division at Pasumai Irrigations (Chennai). But soon the condition of the company deteriorated and they were not even in a condition to pay their employees. Rajib went to his boss to get his salary but his boss insulted him. He thought that working without money is better than not working.
In 1993 Poloyan Barkai Industry Limited, an Israeli company that previously deals with Pasumai Irrigation identified Rajib’s ability and handed him the command of India’s greenhouse distribution. Rajib had no marketing experience. Later Polyon Industry merged into another Israeli company Ginger Plastic Products Limited and made Rajib the director of the marketing division of Ginger Plastic Products Limited, India. Later this company touched many successes.
But complications such as Rajib’s address were found. In 2003, DRI’s house was raided by a customer. Their real struggle began after that. This incident did not let them sleep overnight. Taking this as an opportunity, Rajib decided to start his own business. Borrowing money from his friends and relatives, he laid the foundation for the Agriplast in a garage in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Agriplast was a private company and in 2011, the company achieved a qualification in the field of plastics used in farming.
Simultaneously, he opened a company called Agriplast Protected Cultivation Private Limited which proved to be an era for safe farming. Rajib launched an Agri-Specific online platform called AgriHub under Start-up India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Their only aim behind this is that the farmers of India should know about the right farming methods. Rajib has 50 employees in Agriplast, 30 employees in Proacted Cultivation and only 6 employees in AgriHub. Agriplast Tech India Private Limited has an annual turnover of 55 crores. Agriplast Protected Cultivation Private Limited has an annual turnover of 20 crores.
Business Khabar In an interview given to him, he gave a message to the youth, “There is no shortcut to success. Always be honest, not only for yourself but also for the country. Always work hard and always try to get back more than you can get from others; Whether they are from your family, your friends or your country.
