Death in a demonstration against the Simon Commission
In 1928, he participated in a demonstration against the Simon Commission, during which he was badly injured in the lathi-charge. During this protest, he suffered a stick on his head and later on 17 November 1928 Lala Lajpat Rai died.
After his death a wave of mourning raged all over India. Bhagat Singh and Rajguru then killed British police officer John Saunders to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, for which he was sentenced to death. This trinity along with Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal was known as Lal-Bal-Pal. Together these three had demanded complete independence in India.
