Swami Vivekananda Biography: Handled at a young age
Born in 1863 in Kolkata
Swami Vivekananda was born on 12 January 1863 in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. At his house he was known as Narendra Dutt. His father Shri Vishwanath Dutt believed in Western civilization. He also wanted to teach English to his son Narendra to run in the manner of Western civilization. Narendra’s intelligence has been very sharp since childhood.
Swami Vivekananda’s father dies
Shri Vishwanath Dutt died in 1884. After this, all the responsibility of the house fell on Narendra’s shoulder. The condition of the house was very bad, after which Swami Vivekananda was not married in such a situation. Narendra was always ahead to help others. Staying hungry, he used to provide food to the guest, himself used to stay wet all night in the rain outside and put the guest to sleep on his bed. This has been his specialty.

Vivekananda gave up his life to his Guru
Swami Vivekananda had dedicated his life to his Gurudev Swami Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. He remained engaged in Guru Seva during the days of Gurudev’s body-sacrifice, regardless of the delicate condition of his home and family. Gurudev’s body had become very sick. In 1893, the World Council of Religions was being held in Chicago (America). Swami Vivekanandaji arrived as the representative of India in it. The people of Europe and America used to look at the subjugated Indians at that time with a very inferior sight. There people tried hard not to get time for Swami Vivekananda to speak in the Sarvadharma Parishad. The effort of an American professor gave him some time but all scholars were surprised to hear his views.
Then he was very welcome in America. There was a large community of his devotees there. He stayed in America for three years and provided the people with a wonderful light of Indian philosophy. ‘The world will be orphaned without spiritualism and Indian philosophy’ This was the firm belief of Swami Vivekananda. In America, he established several branches of the Ramakrishna Mission. Many American scholars received his discipleship.
Lived as a monk, renounced his body on 4 July 1902
