The Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper batsman said that he has changed his method of training.
Mumbai: Dinesh Karthik, who became the ‘player of the match’ in India’s first T20 International in 2006, is once again preparing to return to the Indian team and is trying to do justice to his talent. Karthik has played 330 T20 matches so far and played a key role in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore) victory over Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday.
Karthik, who scored 44 runs in 23 balls in the match, said, “I am trying to do justice to myself. I think I could have done better in the last few years.” Karthik, who has always been very popular in the IPL, has not been selected in the Indian team after the loss against New Zealand in the semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2019.
He hasn’t done well with the bat as well for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the last two years and 18 years after making his India debut, Karthik is well aware of his unbeaten eight-ball 29 in the final of the Nidahas Trophy. The innings cannot be his only legacy while retiring. The Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper batsman said that he has changed his method of training.

After the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Karthik said, “I am training differently. I am telling myself that my innings is not over yet. I have a goal and I want to achieve something.” When Karthik came out to bat, the Bangalore team had to score 12 runs per over to win. He hit his Tamil Nadu teammate Ravichandran Ashwin for a four and then sent the ball over long on for six runs.
He then hit this off-spinner for a four at mid-off and then also hit a four with a reverse sweep. Karthik has a career strike rate of 134 and an average of 27.58 which doesn’t do justice to his talent. Karthik knows he doesn’t have enough cricket left in him and wants to make the most of the remaining time. He no longer plays red-ball cricket and knows that T20 is the key to him in the last phase of his career. (agency)
