Paris: Former Australian Open runner-up Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has announced that he will retire from tennis after the French Open tennis tournament. Tsonga, who has struggled with injuries during his career, will thus end his career in front of his home audience (Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Retirement).
The 36-year-old Tsonga of France achieved a career-best fifth ranking in 2012 but his current ranking is 220 after suffering an injury last time. This means Tsonga will not get a direct entry into the main draw at Roland Garros and will have to rely on a wild card given by the organisers. Tsonga is the first of the great French players who came to the fore almost 20 years ago, who are retiring. Gail Monfils, Richard Gasquet and Giles Simon are also included in the list of these veterans.
