Former Sri Lankan cricket team pacer Rumesh Ratnayake has been appointed as the interim coach of Sri Lanka ahead of the five-match T20 series tour against Australia (Australia vs Sri Lanka 2022) next month. According to the schedule, the T20 series between Sri Lanka and Australia (AUS vs SL T20 Series, 2022) is starting from February 11 and the last match will be played on February 20.

After this series, the Sri Lankan team will visit India. According to the information released by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, Rumesh Ratnayake has been made the interim coach of the Sri Lankan team in the series against Australia. He has been appointed by the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket on the recommendation of the Technical Advisory Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Played the responsibility in Zimbabwe vs Sri Lanka ODI series
Earlier, Rumesh Ratnayake had served with the Sri Lankan team in the recently played ODI series against Zimbabwe (SL vs ZIM ODI Series) played in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 in this series.
The history of international cricket tells that 58-year-old Rumesh Ratnayake has played for Sri Lanka in 23 Test matches and 70 One Day International matches in his international career between 1982 and 1993. Currently, he is associated as a fast bowling coach at the High Performance Center, Sri Lanka.
Currently in isolation due to corona infection
After the notice issued by ‘Sri Lanka Cricket’, now Rumesh Ratnayake will take over the responsibility of Mickey Arthur, the former head coach of the Sri Lankan team.
