The Chicago White Sox Amateur City Elite (ACE) program is a part of Blake Hickman’s baseball story.
Hickman now appears to be like to assist develop aces — and relievers — as a pitching coach within the Sox group.
The Sox introduced their 2023 participant growth workers Tuesday, and Hickman would be the pitching coach at Class A Kannapolis in his skilled teaching debut.
“I’m loving it so far,” Hickman mentioned in a video convention. “Just getting the prospect to get to know these guys early, get right down to instructs and assembly guys like (pitching prospect) Noah Schulz and all the blokes within the earlier drafts, it’s been thrilling.

Hickman, 29, is a graduate of the ACE program and Simeon. According to the Sox, he’s the primary former ACE participant to educate for the group. He additionally performed within the minor leagues within the Sox group after they chose him within the seventh spherical of the 2015 draft out of Iowa.
“Sometimes there are players that come along that you feel like, when their playing days are finished, would be quality instructors, front-office members — what have you — and Blake was certainly one of those guys, regardless of his path to coming to the White Sox as a drafted player,” assistant normal supervisor/participant growth Chris Getz mentioned throughout a video convention.

“That first season, coming off Tommy John surgery and just coming out of college, knowing the workload and how to really treat your body and take care of your body, that was the biggest thing for me,” he mentioned. “That’s what I’m attempting to take into this yr as a result of I’ve received plenty of school guys, making them perceive that it is a longer season, you’ve received to alter some issues up that you just used to do in school.
“Because (Kannapolis) was where I started, it’s going to be awesome to share my experience with these guys. The game has changed since I played. While Hickman imagined he can be on the sphere as a participant, he’s welcoming this function.
