Dubai, The International Cricket Council, with the aim of conducting the Women’s One Day World Cup 2022 in New Zealand without any hindrance, said on Thursday that if during the competition COVID- If the outbreak of 19 (COVID-19) spreads, then all matches can be organized even with nine players. The rule of playing with nine players is part of the ICC guidelines since the ICC Under-19 World Cup played in the West Indies.
It was not needed in the U-19 World Cup where India won the title for a record fifth time. ICC’s head of competition Chris Tetley said the current playing conditions allow teams to field a team with fewer players in the event of an outbreak of COVID, in which members of the management and coaching staff can play the role of substitute fielders.
“If necessary, we will allow the team to field nine players in the current circumstances,” Tetley told ESPNcricinfo. “And if they have women members in their management team, we will allow two of them to be substitute fielders to run the match but they won’t be able to bat or bowl,” he said.

In view of the pandemic, all teams have been allowed to travel with three additional players who can be included in the 15-member squad if a player is infected with COVID. The ICC official also did not rule out changing the schedule of matches if needed.
“We will ask the teams to show maximum flexibility and to fulfill our objective of completing matches, we will also take a flexible stance as and when required,” he added. The Women’s ODI World Cup will be played from March 4 in which the first match will be between hosts New Zealand and West Indies. (agency)
