Kolkata: India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour on Monday said that Rishabh Pant could be used better in the lower middle order and the team is yet to decide on sending the wicket-keeper batsman to the top order. Pant was recently introduced as a match opener during the ODI series against West Indies.
Rathod was asked if the team management sees Pant as an opener in limited overs cricket in future, he said, the attacking batsman could be better used in the lower middle order. He told reporters ahead of the T20 International series against West Indies starting on Wednesday, “There is still a lot of time in it. I don’t know whether I will be part of the team after 2023. As far as Rishabh is concerned, he is a fantastic player who can bat at the top of the order anytime.”

Rathod said, “It depends on the condition of the team at that time and what the team wants from it then. I have no doubt that he will continue to be an important member of the team even after 2023.” “But we can make better use of him in the lower middle order which can be really challenging as we don’t have much left-hander options in the middle order. We will see at that point where it can be more useful.” Pant had entered the second ODI as an opener but after the return of Shikhar Dhawan in the third ODI, he came to bat at number five. (agency)
