Kolkata: Vice-captain Nicholas Pooran has said that West Indies batsmen were in a dilemma while facing Indian spinners in the first T20 International. He, however, asked the batsmen to do well in the next two matches of the three-match series by making “slight changes”. Opener Kyle Myers gave West Indies a good start as the team scored 44 for one in six overs.
Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and debutant Ravi Bishnoi then took three wickets and curbed the run-rate in the middle overs to restrict West Indies to 157 for seven at the Eden Gardens. Pooran told reporters after the match, “To be honest, we think we scored 10-15 runs short. A score of 170 to 175 runs on this wicket would have been good. We can’t find fault with bowlers. As batsmen, we have to show some sense of humor.”

Pooran told the batsmen, “Once again our batting needs improvement. Today we faced the spinners well. We just wanted to build a partnership. We just have to deal with the spinners a little better.” He said, “Today we were in a dilemma whether to take an aggressive approach against him or let his overs get over. We got stuck there in a dilemma. So a little bit of change is needed. In the next match, we have to implement our strategy better.”
Pooran also said that the dew played an important role as it was easier for India to bat in the second innings with a lot of dew. India won the match by six wickets. Pooran said, “Of course it (dew) was a big issue. If you watch the match, you will find that the bowlers were finding it difficult to catch the ball in the last five overs. I think the wicket was better in the second half of the match.” (agency)
