Bihar authorities has begun the method to offer Petroleum Exploration License (PEL) to evaluate the presence of oil reserves in Samastipur and Buxar districts within the state.
The state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Limited has utilized for the grant of PELs for Buxar and Samastipur for oil exploration and manufacturing underneath the Open Field Licensing Policy (OALP), further chief secretary-cum-mines commissioner of Bihar, Harjot Kaur Bamhrah advised PTI.
“The exploration process to assess the presence of oil reserves in Samastipur (308.32 sq km) and Buxar (52.13 sq km) in the Ganga basin will start very soon,” she stated.
The mines and geology division of the state authorities has already briefed the executive heads of each districts on this regard, she added.
The ONGC has paid software charges with copies of map and schedule of the world for the grant of PELs for each blocks.
“A PEL for the area may be granted under the provisions of rule 5(1) of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules, 1959”, it stated in its request letter to the mines and geology division. The meant interval of the PEL is 4 years.
A senior official of the division stated the primary section will begin with a 2D seismic survey utilizing newest seismic information recording system after which a geochemical survey utilizing superior know-how. The surveys can be supplemented with gravity magnetic and Magneto-Telluric (MT) surveys within the coming days.
MT is a well-liked geophysical technique that makes use of pure time variation of the earth’s magnetic and electrical fields to grasp the geological (underground) construction and processes. It is extensively used to picture {the electrical} resistivity distribution contained in the Earth in numerous software fields ranging in scale from the shallow crust to the lithosphere.
The information generated by the surveys can be studied or interpreted on high-tech workstations with subtle software program to pin level the possible space within the block, the official stated.
The exploration for oil reserves was carried out earlier too in sure elements of Bihar however no industrial discovery was made. It, nevertheless, helped in gathering precious geological info for additional exploration, the official added.
