According to a report on Friday, the number of people infected with Zika virus in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh rose to 66 after 30 more people tested positive for the virus. The first case of Zika virus was reported in the city on 23 October after an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer tested positive. “Thirty more people have tested positive for Zika virus in Kanpur,” news agency PTI quoted District Magistrate Vishak G Iyer as saying on Friday.
The official said samples from different areas around the IAF station hangar, where the first case was detected, were sent to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow for testing and 30 of them came back positive. However, no mention was made of the number of samples collected.
According to the report, out of 66 people infected so far, 45 are men and 21 are women. In addition, to combat the spread of the disease, sanitation programs including anti-larval spraying, identification of fever patients and screening of critically ill people and pregnant women are being initiated, the report said.

Iyer also said, “We advise the local people that there is no need to panic due to the sudden increase in the cases of Zika virus.”
He also said that Zika virus is mosquito-borne and getting rid of insects is the only safe way to avoid the disease. While state health officials have been directed to increase surveillance and conduct door-to-door sampling and testing for the disease, the area around the hangars of IAF stations has also been put on high alert.
News agency ANI quoted Kanpur CMO Dr. Nepal Singh as saying that on Wednesday, 25 people tested positive for the disease and the number was 36.
That day, he said, “The health department is testing and sampling 400 to 500 people for Zika virus, while door-to-door sampling is also going on.”
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the state health department to intensify activities in control of the disease like strict surveillance, frequent and extensive door-to-door sanitization and fogging drives to prevent mosquito breeding. Have given.
