To explain the importance of water, the whole world celebrates World Water Day on 22 March every year. On this occasion, this year (2021) PM Modi has launched the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign in India. The slogan of this campaign is – ‘Wherever it falls and whenever it falls, collect rainwater.’ Meaning, the government wants to revolutionize the importance of water to the people at the grassroots level. For this, a long time has been set from 22 March 2021 to the next 30 November 2021.

1. Abid Surti
Abid Surti has helped save about 20 million liters of water in the last decade. This 86-year-old water warrior from Maharashtra is struggling to save every drop of water. Abid has also established a foundation named ‘Drop Dead’ to save water. He regularly goes door-to-door with a plumber every Sunday in Mira Road area of Mumbai and gets the leaking water tap fixed for free.
Due to this campaign, he has saved millions of liters of water from ruining till now. Inspired by Abid, other people also gave importance to his campaign and connected with him. A Delhi MLA talked about adopting the model of Surti in his constituency. Abid, working like the One Mana Army, works 6 days a week and on Sunday works to spread awareness about water among people.
2. Amla Ruia
Amala Ruia Abid, popularly known as Jal Mata, is another water warrior like Surti. Although Amla was born in UP, but at this time she lives in Mumbai and is a well-known social worker of the country. Amla drew the attention of everyone by constructing traditional water harvesting techniques in more than 100 villages throughout Rajasthan.
He is also remembered for making check dams everywhere using natural resources. Amla also established a charitable trust to conserve water. Through this, she works to promote water, vegetation and soil as well as education. Amla was nominated for the ‘Woman of Worth’ Social Award category in 2016 for her noble works.
