World Tuberculosis Day 2022: Every year on this day, 24 March, World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated all over the world. World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated to raise awareness about TB and to intensify efforts to end the global TB epidemic. This deadly disease is currently spreading rapidly again in the Asia-Pacific region including Australia.
TB is considered by many to be a disease of the past, but before COVID-19, it was the world’s largest infectious and deadly disease. Health experts have warned that Australia needs to do more to deal with the disease, as the country is currently suffering from this deadly disease.
There were 9.9 million cases of TB worldwide in 2020, of which 1.5 million were fatal. With more than two-thirds of the world’s cases reported in the Asia-Pacific region, the Australian government has been urged to double investment in fighting the disease.

Brendan Crabb, director of the Burnett Institute and Professor at Pacific Friends of Global Health, said the Australian government should step up efforts in the fight against TB. Professor Crabb told Radio National on Thursday morning that it is a bacteria that we are struggling to find a solution for.
He said that the medicines we have but it is difficult to distribute them all over the world. The professor said that TB is probably the biggest health problem of PNG. The Australian government previously allocated $242 million in 2019 to tackle TB, but Professor Crabbe said further growth was needed.
Vaccines and other treatments exist for TB, but it is very difficult to get them on a large scale where they are needed. This is particularly challenging in developing countries. Professor Crabb said that investing more in fighting TB now could prevent the problem from progressing.
