Indore. Lata Mangeshkar, popularly known as the “Malika of the notes”, took “maunvrata” for some time around the year 1960 due to trouble in her vocal chords. When she returned to the microphone after giving her throat a rest, she won the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer for the famous song “Kahin Deep Jale, Kahin Dil”.
Mangeshkar’s younger brother and music director Hridaynath Mangeshkar himself has disclosed this during a public program in Indore, the birthplace of “Soron Ki Mallika”. Born on 28 September 1929 in Indore, Lata Mangeshkar died on Sunday at the age of 92 in a hospital in Mumbai.
Hridaynath, while stepping into the ‘corridor’ of memories in a public program organized in Indore on February 21, 2010, titled “Main Aur Didi”, had told that Lata was once heard in her vocal cords while singing aloud around 1960. I felt my voice cracking due to some problem. This incident happened for the first time with Lata and she had narrated her trouble to the famous classical singer of Indore, Ustad Amir Khan. Hridaynath had said that Khan had advised Lata that it would be better to remain silent for some time and not sing any song in view of her trouble.
The program ‘Main Au Didi’ was conducted by Sanjay Patel, a cultural worker from Indore. Patel also confirmed today that Hridaynath Mangeshkar had spoken about Lata’s silence. According to Hridaynath, the career of “Sura Ki Mallika” was at the heights at that time, but despite this, she followed Khan’s advice and for this she was also out of Mumbai for some time.
Hridaynath had told that Lata, who returned to the world of playback singing after the end of this “maunvrat”, sang the song “Kahin Deep Jale, Kahi Dil” from the film “Bees Saal Baad” (1962) under the music direction of Hemant Kumar. .
