Many states of the country including Kerala and Uttarakhand are receiving torrential rains. In the past two days, related incidents due to heavy rains have claimed 30 lives in Kerala and 23 in Uttarakhand. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be no respite from rain in the coming days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in many states from tomorrow i.e. Wednesday.
After barely two days of respite from incessant rains in Kerala, the Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued an orange alert for 11 districts of the state and forecast heavy rain. The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert for Thursday in 12 districts of the state.

The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert for October 20 in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts. On the other hand, orange alert has been issued for all other districts except Kannur and Kasaragod for 21 October.
Red alert is issued by the Meteorological Department on the possibility of more than 20 cm of rain in 24 hours, Orange alert on the possibility of 6 to 20 cm of rain and Yellow alert on the possibility of 6 to 11 cm of rain in 24 hours.
Apart from this, IMD has predicted rain for South Interior Karnataka during October 20 to October 23. The Meteorological Department said that very heavy rains are likely over Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from October 20 to 21.

At the same time, there is a possibility of widespread rain in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on 23 October. The Meteorological Department has predicted scattered rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh on October 22. Whereas on October 23, there may be scattered rain in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, North-West Rajasthan.
The Meteorological Department said that a low pressure area has formed over Bihar and its adjoining areas and due to this, heavy rain activity is likely to continue over East and Northeast India on October 20. On October 19, there is a possibility of heavy rain and lightning in isolated areas of Odisha and Jharkhand, while on October 20 in isolated areas of Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar.
