Weather Updates April: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that some states of the country including National Delhi will experience severe heat in the month of April as well. Heat wave conditions are also expected to continue this month. The IMD has predicted extreme heat in various states between April 3 and April 6. The Meteorological Department said that some parts of Northwest, Central India and Northeast are expected to see above-normal temperatures in April.
Apart from this, the IMD has issued an alert for the Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Power and Fire Department, among other departments, for severe heat conditions for the next four days. The Meteorological Department in its advisory has alerted the Ministry of Power to regularly check power cuts and ensure proper power supply.

IMD officials said hot weather conditions in northwest India have become ‘severe’ due to prolonged drought. According to the department, heat wave conditions are likely to continue for the next four to five days over Northwest, Central and West India.

IMD said that some districts of North West, Central and West India (Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab) are likely to experience severe heat wave conditions during the next four days. However, the Meteorological Department said that from April 1, the intensity of heatwave will reduce over Northwest India.

According to the Meteorological Department, during this time the temperature is going to rise up to 39 degrees and it can even reach 40 degrees. Apart from this, many states of India are expected to receive average to normal rainfall in April. IMD said that Northwest and Central India and parts of Northeast India are expected to receive below normal rainfall in April.
The weather monitoring agency has predicted normal (89-111% of long duration) rainfall for April 2022. The Met Office said that there is a possibility of above-normal rains in many parts of South Peninsula, western parts of central India and some parts of Northeast India.
There is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam-Meghalaya region on April 1, 3 and 4. Barring the coastal peninsular regions, almost all of India received very little rainfall in March.
Delhi’s condition
The Meteorological Department said that parts of Delhi experienced severe heat in the month of March and the maximum temperature crossed 41 degrees at three places. Heat wave conditions are expected to continue in Delhi this month as well.
According to the Meteorological Department, hot winds are declared as ‘loo’ when the temperature in the plains is more than 40 degrees Celsius or 4.5 degrees Celsius above normal. A ‘severe heatwave’ is declared when the temperature is 6.4 degrees above normal.
