Water Taxi Service in Mumbai: Now water taxis can also be used to travel between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today flagged off water taxi for the people of Mumbai from Belapur Jetty through a virtual program. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was also present on this occasion and presided over the function and inaugurated the newly built Belapur Jetty. The water taxi services will start from the Domestic Cruise Terminal (DCT) and will also connect places near Nerul, Belapur, Elephanta Island and JNPT. This will also save people’s time and the journey will be comfortable.

Apart from providing convenience to the people of Mumbai with water taxi services, tourism will also get a boost. This has made travel from Navi Mumbai to the historic Elephanta Caves easy and tourists will be able to travel easily from Navi Mumbai to the Gateway of India.

Work underway on 131 projects in Maharashtra
The newly built Belapur jetty has been built at a cost of Rs 8.37 crore and has received funds in a 50-50 model under the Sagarmala scheme of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Through this new jetty, the movement of ships will be easy at places like Bhaucha Dhaka, Mandwa, Elephanta and Karanja. Under the Sagarmala programme, several projects have been taken up in various categories like port modernization, rail, road, cruise tourism, RORO and passenger jetties, fisheries, seaside infrastructure and skill development. In Maharashtra, 131 projects worth Rs 1.05 crore have been identified for implementation. In this, 46 projects worth Rs 2078 crore are getting financial help from the Union Ministry, in which 13 projects have been completed. Out of 131 projects, 33 projects have been completed.
