US troops pulling out of Afghanistan concern for India: US President Joe Biden has announced that his soldiers will return from Afghanistan after 20 years on the anniversary of 9/11. Many people consider it a victory of the Taliban. Experts have also said that this decision can increase the tension of India. Experts say the decision to withdraw US (US Troops) and NATO troops from Afghanistan will be a matter of concern for India.
With this decision, the Taliban will once again step into this region and the land of Afghanistan will once again become a refuge for terrorists. US President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that after nearly two decades in Afghanistan, all US troops will be withdrawn from Afghanistan by September 11 this year. Lisa Curtis, a former deputy advisor to the president in the former Donald Trump administration and senior director of NSC for South and Central Asia for 2017-2021, said, “The withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan has led to the region’s country, the Taliban reverberating.” The emergence will especially worry India.
Taliban shelters terrorists for money
Curtis said that when the Taliban had control in Afghanistan in the 1990s, it sheltered terrorists to raise money from Afghanistan. Trained them and recruited them in terrorist organizations. Many terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, were trained in India for attacks like the 2001 Parliament attack on Parliament.
Indian aircraft was hijacked in 1999
Curtis, who served in the US government for more than 20 years, and foreign policy and national security affairs specialist, is currently a Senior Fellow and Director of the Indo-Pacific Security Program at the Center for New American Security (CNAS) think-tank. He said Indian officials would also remember the close alliance between the terrorists and the Taliban who hijacked an Indian aircraft in December 1999. India can increase its role in regional efforts for peace and stability in the country, on the lines of the current United Nations effort to ensure that the land of Afghanistan is not used by anti-India terrorists.
Taliban not interested in peace process
Hussain Haqqani, Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US and currently director of South and Central Asia affairs at the Hudson Institute think-tank, told PTI, “India will be worried about the Taliban-occupied territory becoming a refugee for terrorists again.” He said that the real question is whether even after the withdrawal of the troops, the US will continue to help the Afghan government so that the people there will be able to counter the Taliban. The Taliban has not shown any interest in the peace process till now. In the negotiations in Doha, he has repeated the same thing about the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.
Biden’s plan can be fatal
The Washington Post stated in its editorial that Biden’s plan to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan could be fatal to the region. The Washington Post said, “President Biden chose the easiest way to move out of Afghanistan, but the consequences could be dangerous.” The New York Times said that it may be difficult to ban terrorist organizations for a long time. The Wall Street Journal has also published some similar ideas.
