Nagpur. The State Election Commission had declared voting for 116 vacant seats in 90 gram panchayats of the district on December 21, but the Supreme Court had ordered the postponement of elections to OBC seats on December 6. Due to the order of Suco, the Election Commission had kept the schedule of bye-elections in the remaining SC, ST, open category seats undone while banning the by-elections of OBC seats across the state. Now on the instructions of Suko, the Election Commission has directed to conduct elections from the open category on the seats of OBC, in which if more than one seat is vacant, then 50 percent women reservation has also been given.
Due to this, the Election Commission has issued orders to the District Magistrates and District Election Decision Officers of all the concerned districts to conduct elections under the orders of Suko. Out of 116 seats in the district, only 5 seats were OBC category, in which voting will now be held from open category on January 18 and counting of votes for the entire election will be held simultaneously on January 19.
111 seats undone
Barring the vacant seats of OBC category, the remaining 111 seats will go to polls on December 21 as per the schedule, but the counting of votes will be held simultaneously on January 19, when elections to the OBC seats will also be held from the open category. There are only 5 seats in the district and as per the instructions of the commission, 50 percent of these seats will be reserved for women of open category. The Commission has given instructions to hold a special Gram Sabha on December 18 in the seats where God’s letter will be required to be taken out.
Nominations of candidates will be accepted during office hours from December 28 to January 3. The withdrawal date is January 6. Voting will be held on January 18 and counting and results will be announced on January 19.
