Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Wednesday that I had never heard of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee or any BJP leader before August 5, 2019 that Jammu and Kashmir (Jammu and Kashmir) should be divided into two parts. He said that there was a demand only to make Leh district a Union Territory and not Kargil. With this, Azad said that the state status of Jammu and Kashmir should be restored and assembly elections should be held. He said that there can be developed in the state in its earlier condition.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha said that when Atal ji used to come to Kashmir, I had heard all his speeches. He said I heard hundreds of speeches by Vajpayee as PM. I had not once heard from either Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji or the then Home Minister or even a BJP MP demanding to make two parts of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and make it a Union Territory. Azad said that the government would have made Leh district in Ladakh a union territory, but should not have divided the state.
Republic Day Violence Condemned
Meanwhile, strongly condemning the violence at the Red Fort in Delhi during the tractor parade of farmers on Republic Day, Azad said that strict action should be taken against the guilty, but innocent farmers should not be targeted. He said that the government should withdraw the new agricultural laws without raising the question of prestige. Azad said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself should announce the withdrawal of these laws. The Prime Minister was present in the House at that time.
Starting the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address, Azad said that he urges the government to withdraw these laws. Along with this, he said that the government should form a committee to trace the people lost during the farmers movement. Referring to the violence on 26 January, Azad said that the insult of the national flag is highly condemnable and the entire opposition condemns it and because it is against democracy. He said that insult to the national flag cannot be tolerated. The Congress leader demanded strict action against those involved in the incident.
Demand to withdraw the case against Tharoor
Referring to the registration of cases against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and some journalists, Azad said that the person who has been the former Minister of State for External Affairs and has led the country in the world, whom people have elected to the Lok Sabha, How can that person be a traitor. Azad said that if they are traitors, then we are all traitors. They demanded the withdrawal of treason.
