The Government of India has appointed economist V Anantha Nageswaran as Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) ahead of the presentation of the Economic Survey and Union Budget next week. The Finance Ministry announced this on Friday. Nageswaran, who has worked with Credit Suisse Group AG and Julius Baer Group and associated with the education sector, will replace KV Subramaniam. KV Subramaniam left the post of CEA in December 2021 after completing his three-year term. An official statement said that Nageswaran took over as the CEA on Friday.

Who is V Ananth Nageswaran
According to the statement, V Anantha Nageswaran was the Dean of the IFMR Graduate School of Business and a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Economics at Krea University. He has also been a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India from 2019 to 2021. The Economic Survey for 2021-22 is expected to be presented on Monday, a day before the budget is presented.

Nageswaran holds a post-graduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. According to a LinkedIn profile, before joining Academia, he worked with investment banks Credit Suisse and Julius Baer Group.
