Uttarakhand Elections 2022: In Uttarakhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled cabinet minister and MLA Harak Singh Rawat from the party for 6 years. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also sacked Harak Singh Rawat from the Uttarakhand cabinet. Harak Singh may join Congress on Monday. Not only this, three BJP MLAs can also join Congress with him.
State BJP President Madan Kaushik was quoted as saying by the party’s media in-charge Manveer Singh Chouhan late night that Dr. Rawat was expelled from the party due to indiscipline. He said indiscipline would not be accepted in the party.
Rawat has often been making controversial statements in the past, along with switching sides several times. In the year 2016, while being a minister in the Congress government, he brought down the government by presenting a no-confidence motion against the then Chief Minister and the government. After this, joined BJP with 09 MLAs. In the year 2017, he was also made a minister in the BJP government of the state. Here too many times he was accused of stubbornness.
It is said that Harak Singh Rawat was seeking ticket from Lansdowne assembly seat for his daughter-in-law Anukreethy. There was speculation that she would join the Congress for a long time. It is believed that he was shown the way out amid speculation that he would join the Congress if the BJP did not agree on these issues.
Party can take action against 10 to 15 more MLAs
After sacking MLA Harak Singh Rawat from the Pushkar Singh Dhami government and the party’s primary membership on Sunday night, the ruling BJP in Uttarakhand has indicated that it will not tolerate “indiscipline” and political pressure at any cost. Party insiders say that 10 to 15 MLAs may be removed. The senior BJP leadership is of the view that the party should not go soft on those who failed on the disciplinary front and remained inactive throughout their tenure.
BJP insiders reveal that three key points have been considered to decide the fate of MLAs – popularity, activism and a clean image among the cadre and voters. On the other hand, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Harak Singh Rawat was shown the way out of the party and always tried to take Harak Singh along. Only one member from a family will get the ticket. There is no break in Uttarakhand BJP. BJP is a party based on nationalism.
