Uttarakhand Election 2022: A day ahead of the assembly elections in Uttarakhand, senior Congress leader Harish Rawat on Sunday said that no one in the party has any objection to his name as the chief ministerial candidate. Talking to news agency ANI on the issue of him not being declared the chief ministerial candidate like Punjab, Rawat said that this step is strategic.
The Congress leader said that I do politics of struggle, not of power. The party has told me that I will lead the election campaign. We are fighting to win the election. No one in the party has any objection to my name as the chief ministerial candidate. He said that no member of the party has expressed any objection to my name.
Former CM Rawat is in the fray from Lalkuan seat. He is contesting from the new seat for the fourth time. Rawat became the Chief Minister in 2014 by winning the by-election from Dharchula seat of Pithoragarh district. Though in 2017 he contested from Haridwar Rural and Kichha in Udham Singh Nagar but lost from both the places.
Voting will be held in Uttarakhand tomorrow
All the 70 assembly seats of Uttarakhand will go to polls tomorrow i.e. on Monday and the counting of votes will take place on March 10. All preparations have been completed for the voting on 70 seats in the Uttarakhand Assembly elections on Monday, where more than 82 lakh voters of the state will exercise their franchise to decide the political future of 632 candidates. State DGP Ashok Kumar said that tight security arrangements have been made for fair and peaceful elections.
Sowjanya, Chief Electoral Officer of Uttarakhand said that voters will be able to exercise their franchise in the state from 8 am to 6 pm. Sowjanya informed that in view of COVID in all the polling stations, gloves have been provided for using hand sanitizers and EVMs so that the epidemic does not spread. He appealed to the voters to follow the COVID guidelines like social distancing and wearing masks.
There will be a tough fight between BJP and Congress.
Like the last four assembly elections in Uttarakhand, which were held about 21 years ago, this time too, there is bound to be a tough fight between the ruling BJP and the Congress in most of the seats. However, the Aam Aadmi Party has tried to make the contest triangular in many seats by fielding its candidates in 70 seats. Apart from this, the regional political party Uttarakhand Kranti Dal is also registering its presence by contesting 48 seats.
From the BJP side, the main burden of the party is mainly on the shoulders of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who has been touring the entire state for the last one fortnight and sweating it out. Dhami, who is trying to win from Khatima for the third time in a row, is up against Bhuvan Chandra Kapadi, who is the working president of the state Congress. On the other hand, Harish Rawat is trying his luck this time from Lalkuan where he is pitted against BJP’s Mohan Bisht besides Congress’ rebel candidate Sandhya Dalakoti.

BJP state president Madan Kaushik is contesting from Haridwar city while state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal is in the fray from Srinagar Garhwal seat. Apart from this, Aam Aadmi Party’s chief ministerial candidate Colonel Ajay Kothiyal is contesting from Gangotri seat. The interesting fact is that the challenge before the BJP, which won a historic victory by unexpectedly winning 57 seats in the last 2017 assembly elections, is not only to save its credibility but it is also embroiled in a tough fight with the Congress.
Political experts believe that the bet in the election can be reversed in any direction. The total number of polling stations in the state is 8624. The number of Adarsh booths with all facilities in the state is 150, while the number of Sakhi booths with full deployment of women is 100. The polling place with maximum number of 1248 voters is Nagla Imarti of Khanpur assembly seat in Haridwar district and Gadhi Negi in Jaspur assembly seat of Udham Singh Nagar district while the least number of voters is Dhikala booth in Kotdwar assembly seat with only 14 voters. .
