The ongoing Army operation in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, ended in 10 days on Tuesday, in which an 18-year-old Pakistani infiltrator has been caught alive, while a terrorist was killed. The army’s operation to check infiltration in Uri and neighboring Line of Control (LoC) areas began on September 18-19, due to which mobile, internet and telephone connectivity was also snapped in these areas.
On Sunday, CNN-News18 quoted army sources as saying that two infiltrators were likely to be killed, but the bodies were yet to be recovered. Four jawans were injured in this incident.
Giving details of the operation, the army said in a statement, “Taking advantage of the dark night, uneven ground, bad weather and dense underground, Pakistan gave shelter to the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba and six terrorists from the general area of Pakistani post Jabri. Tried to infiltrate. During the infiltration, when two terrorists were crossing the Line of Control, the patrol party spotted them.”
It further said, “Taking advantage of the dense underground, four terrorists fled back towards PoK along the Line of Control, while the remaining two terrorists managed to sneak into Indian territory.”
The terrorist killed in this operation was identified as Ateeq ur Rehman alias Qari Anas (33), a resident of District Attock in Punjab (Pakistan).
The army said, “The infiltration route of the terrorists was from Sawai Nala Terrorist Camp to Hallan Shumali Launch Pad to Jabari, which leads to Salamabad Nala. It would be correct to mention here that, it is the same route along Salamabad Nala. Through which terrorists infiltrated with the help of Pakistani Army in 2016 and carried out a suicide attack on the Uri garrison.
Talking about the captured 18-year-old terrorist, the army said, “The surrendered terrorist is a resident of Dipalpur in district Okara. He was misled due to poverty, having lost his father at an early age. and lured to join Lashkar-e-Taiba. His family in Dipalpur consists of his widowed mother and an adopted sister. The family belongs to the lower class who barely earns two times’ bread.”
He dropped out after class VII to escape poverty. He retrained in 2019 after three weeks of initial training at the Garhi Habibullah Camp (KPK) in 2021. Appointed for physical and weapons training, he said. Most of the trainers who went were Pakistani Army personnel.”
It was further informed, “According to the surrendered terrorist, Ateeq ur Rehman alias Qari Anas resident of Village-Pindi, District-Attock, Punjab (Pakistan) had given him Rs 20,000/- for the treatment of his mother and gave him additional Rs. 30,000/- as well as a safe return from Pattan near Baramulla, where this group was to deliver munitions. However, it is clear that there were more nefarious designs involved in surrendering. The terrorist who did it is also unknown.”
This is clearly one of the few infiltration attempts in the Kashmir Valley. Reportedly, some attempts were also made recently in Pir Panjal area of Rajouri, where there was an exchange of fire between the army and the terrorists.
